Reading the table
What the Set Fine Does Not Include
The total payable on a ticket is higher than the set fine. Ontario adds a victim fine surcharge and court costs. Your offence notice shows the total.
Demerit points stay on your record for two years from the offence date. A fully licensed driver gets a warning letter at 6 points and a 30-day suspension at 15. G1, G2, M1 and M2 drivers face suspensions at much lower totals. See our Ontario demerit points chart and novice driver ticket FAQ.
A conviction can also affect your insurance for years, which often costs more than the fine. Read the exact charge on your ticket, because the section number decides the fine and the points.
