Ontario Traffic Ticket Advice on Reddit: What to Check

Reddit can help you find questions to ask. A public thread is not a case review. Check the advice against Ontario sources, then send ParaCan your ticket or summons for a free case review.

Representation from $399 + HST. Your fee quoted before you retain us.

Four Claims Worth Checking

Advice about another driver can leave out the charge, evidence, licence class or court procedure that mattered.

Does the charge disappear if the officer does not attend?

Do not count on that. The Ontario Court of Justice explains that some cases can rely on certified documents without a witness attending. A Reddit story about a dismissal does not tell you what evidence can be used in your case. Review the disclosure and charge before choosing a defence.

Do I have 15 days, or must I attend on the summons date?

For an offence notice, Ontario describes a 15-day response period. A summons is different: you or your representative must attend at the time and place shown. Read your own document and confirm attendance instructions with the court. Asking ParaCan for a review does not file a response or change a court date.

Is an insurance-card problem the same as having no coverage?

Do not assume the two are interchangeable. FSRA distinguishes the insurance certificate describing coverage and its period from the proof of insurance you carry. Keep the charge, policy documents and any cancellation notices together. Ask for a review of the actual allegation and coverage records, not a prediction based on another driver's post.

Can the court simply remove the demerit points?

The Ontario Court of Justice says demerit points follow specified convictions by law; the justice of the peace cannot waive or reduce them. A discussion about a lower-point resolution needs to identify the actual charge and proposed outcome. Do not treat someone else's reported deal as an offer in your case.

Turn Conflicting Advice Into Useful Questions

Match the actual allegation

Compare the wording and statutory section, not just the nickname for the offence. Use our driving without insurance defence page or driving while suspended defence page for charge-specific information.

Keep facts off a public thread

You do not need to publish your ticket, licence number, home address or policy number to decide what to ask a representative. Keep originals and use a direct case-review request.

Check the source and the date

Look for current Ontario instructions. Ask which document or rule supports the answer. Our Ontario traffic ticket first-steps checklist helps you organize the next step.

Where these questions come from

Public Discussions, Not Legal Authorities

Examples include a July 2022 discussion about a day in traffic court, a February 2026 discussion involving insurance proof and a suspension, and a September 2026 discussion about a zero-point conviction. They illustrate questions, not verified outcomes or ParaCan client testimonials.
